Biography:
Although the Asturian Enciclopaedia (Gran Encicolopedia Asturiana) describes him as painter and engraver Domingo Borrego is a multidisciplinary artist. He has experimented with various techniques and materials throughout his long creative life which has taken him from the graphite drawing to digital art.
In this brief summary of his work we should mention that drawings are the basis on which his artistic universe has been built, starting forty years ago with drawings and linoleum engravings in which the footprints of social realism were very clear.
Pastels, crayon, gouache, wooden sculptures... are all different techniques to free and express his unlimited imagination that couldn't be trapped in just one of these artistic expressions. Thus the blend of techniques has given birth to the majority of his most colourful abstract images.
Watercolours, ink, and acrylic paintings are some of the resources used to widen the horizons of his pictorial expression. Airbrush and paintbrush naturally alternate in his works where the human body either stands obviously and powerfully as the symbol of his personality or imperceptibly poses, almost invisible on the surface of the painting.
The three dimensions are always a temptation and it's difficult not to fall in the trap. As a result small wooden sculptures emerge with impossible shapes.
However last century's technologies have brought the infinite horizon come closer and thus the twenty first century will give birth to new lights from outer space which together with the tools that technology grants artists will make a new world possible. Domingo Borrego is working on it.
